Treatise on Mediate Auscultation

2006

from essay by Donna Wawzonek (curator of Danger Will Robinson exhibition):

“Where the other works in the exhibition can be activated by the viewer, Treatise on Mediate Auscultation can more accurately be said to activate the viewer.  Denton has set up three stations in the gallery space; each coded yellow, blue or red.  At them is a plexiglas case containing a sculptural ‘urn’ constructed of discarded CDs and DVDs.  The stations are constructed to mimic the aesthetics of the original Lost in Space set.  Available at each station is a reengineered stethoscope/ear protection/headphone contraption that is activated by the activities of two viewers.  As the equipped viewers navigate the space and the other art in the exhibition they receive what seem to be audio signals from the other stations.”

Exhibited at Latitude 53, Edmonton , AB.
